What is the
Co-Parent Empowerment Group?

The Co-Parent Empowerment Group (COPE) is an essential program for adults struggling to establish or maintain a cooperative co-parenting relationship. COPE is a six week skills class offering co-parents concurrent but separate groups — focusing primarily on emotional and anger management, de-escalation of conflict and effective communication skills. At the heart of the program is protection of children from loyalty binds and from exposure to parental conflict. Shonnie Brown and Happy Morris are licensed Marriage and Family Therapists specializing in divorce, child custody and co-parenting issues.

Mission Statement

We believe that all children have the right to love and idealize as well as experience disappointment with both parents without being placed in a loyalty bind. We believe that exposure to parental conflict and domestic violence, including verbal and emotional hostility, is damaging to children and therefore unacceptable. We encourage parental responsibility for managing personal feelings separately from the co-parenting relationship. We support each parent in modeling to their children healthy expression of feelings. We foster personal growth, appropriate generational boundaries and strengthening of the parent-child bond through increased awareness of the child's experience.

The Co-Parent Empowerment Group is the exclusive creation and property of Shonnie Brown and Happy Morris.
